PERCEPTIONS ON VIOLENT CRIMES IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN NIGERIA
There has been a rise in the number of violent crimes committed in Nigerian universities. Maintaining everyone’s physical and emotional well-being is essential for a productive learning atmosphere. The purpose of this paper is to assess how people in Nigeria’s higher education system feel about violent crime and to offer suggestions for how it might be reduced.
– Suggest preventative steps including installing surveillance cameras, hiring security guards, and setting up an emergency response system.
Promote the development of victim counselling and assistance programmes to help those who have suffered a traumatic event.
In order to successfully address violent crimes, it is essential that tertiary institutions, law enforcement agencies, and key stakeholders work together.
Preventative measures, support services, and coordination amongst many stakeholders are all necessary to solve the problem of violent crimes in higher education. Creating safer and more conducive learning environments for its tertiary institutions, Nigeria may evaluate the attitudes around violent crimes and apply successful methods.
